The State Of Health Care In Rhode Island
  • In 2004, 120,000 Rhode Island residents were without health insurance for the entire year.1   However, 249,000 were without insurance for all or part of 2002- 2003.2
  • 56 percent of Hispanics living in Rhode Island are uninsured, compared with 21 percent of whites.3
  • 19 percent of African-Americans in Rhode Island are uninsured.4
  • 12 percent of the uninsured in Rhode Island are children under the age of 18, as compared to 19 percent nationwide.5
  • 65 percent of the uninsured in Rhode Island have at least one full-time worker at home.6
  • 47 percent of small businesses in Rhode Island do not offer health insurance.7
  • 40 percent of the Rhode Island uninsured have incomes above 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, compared to 36 percent nationwide.8
